10 players scatter the list, but a slew of upgrades highlight the early-week release
The early-week injury list was released by the team’s athletic training staff after training this morning. Of course, the main story during the weekend was the injury suffered by Preston Burpo in Saturday’s game. The goalkeeper underwent surgery on Sunday afternoon at Massachusetts General Hospital, and will miss the rest of the 2010 season.
While Burpo’s name is notably added to the injury list, two other players also appear: Kevin Alston and Kheli Dube. Conversely, four players have been upgraded and returned to training.
NE Injury Report – June 1, 2010
PROBABLE: Kevin Alston (R adductor strain), Emmanuel Osei (R leg infection)
QUESTIONABLE: Nico Colaluca (L knee sprain), Kheli Dube (R hamstring strain), Cory Gibbs (R hamstring strain), Mike Videira (L ankle Os Trignoum)
DOUBTFUL: Matt Reis (L shoulder/knee surgeries)
OUT: Darrius Barnes (R ankle sprain), Preston Burpo (R leg surgery), Taylor Twellman (concussion)
Emmanual Osei’s upgrade to PROBABLE and return to training this week is most notable as the Ghanaian has been kept away from the team for the last six weeks with an infection in his leg. Also PROBABLE is Kevin Alston, who picked up a slight knock on his adductor during the match. However, he was out at training today.
On the QUESTIONABLE list, Nico Colaluca and Cory Gibbs have both been upgraded from OUT and DOUBTFUL, respectively, and participated in training today, while Mike Videira remained QUESTIONABLE ahead of a full week of training. He did participate fully on Friday, and is expected to get more reps this week.
A new name on the injury list is Kheli Dube, who is also QUESTIONABLE after picking up a hamstring strain during Saturday’s game.
Matt Reis has also been upgraded to DOUBTFUL and was also removed from MLS’ disabled list earlier today, clearing the way for him to return to the active roster. Reis returned to full training just last week and his availability for Saturday’s match in Seattle is still in question.
Darrius Barnes and Taylor Twellman continue to be OUT, while Burpo has joined the list , where he will remain for the rest of the season.
