Revs’ third-round draft pick joins the club after finishing school at Kentucky
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution announced today that the team’s third-round draft pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, midfielder Jason Griffiths, has signed with Major League Soccer to play for the Revs. A native of Bracknell, England, Griffiths will occupy one of the Revs’ international roster spots. Per MLS and club policy, terms of the deal were not released.
Griffiths, 23, appeared in 65 games with 64 starts in his Kentucky career, earning all-region honors as a senior. Griffiths finished his career with 12 goals and 10 assists, netting two game-winning goals. Griffiths was also a perfect 8-for-8 in penalty-kick goals in the regular season in his decorated four-year career. During the 2009 season, Griffiths ranked second on the team with three goals, adding one assist.
“We’re pleased to bring Jason into the squad,” Revolution Vice President of Player Personnel Michael Burns said. “He’s a hard-working central midfielder who we believe can grow in our system.”
After a two-week break from league play, the Revolution returns to MLS action on Sunday, June 27, when the club hosts the archrival Chicago Fire at 7 p.m. at Gillette Stadium. For ticket information, call 1-877-GET-REVS or visit revolutionsoccer.net.
